The presidential search for Howard University's 18th President has been selected

The Board of Trustees retained the services of Isaacson, Miller, a leading specialized higher education search firm, to assist with the recruitment of the best possible candidate to succeed Dr. Frederick, who plans to retire in September 2023. Isaacson Miller has extensive experience in conducting presidential searches and has recruited leaders to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country. We are confident that they will help us identify an individual who has the vision, experience, and commitment to leading Howard University into its next chapter of excellence.

Throughout the process, we sought feedback, suggestions, and questions with respect to the presidential search from all Howard community members leveraging diverse perspectives to find the candidates best suited to Howard and our community’s needs. This webpage was created to share updates and house information regarding the Presidential search, the search committee and subsequent updates for the university community. Isaacson, Miller in collaboration with the Howard University Presidential Search Committee have finalized their search and the 18th President of Howard University has been selected.  

Howard University Appoints Revered Historian and Academic Leader Ben Vinson III, PhD, as 18th President.  An accomplished higher education leader; historian of the African diaspora with a focus on Blacks in Latin America.  

The Board of Trustees remained committed to finding a leader who will continue Howard's tradition of excellence and ensure that our students receive the highest quality education possible.
