Howard University acknowledges excellence and achievement by conferring honorary degrees to persons who have achieved distinction in their respective fields of endeavor. The Honorary Degree is conferred on a selective basis, upon recommendation of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, to distinguished individuals who merit special recognition for demonstrated achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the mission of Howard University.  It is the University's highest honor.

The Office of the Secretary receives requests for Death Resolutions to memorialize the passing of members of the Howard University community in the permanent record of the Board of Trustees.  Resolutions can be requested for alumni, employees, students and others. The Death Resolution Request Criteria and Form are available here.
